Our History

Tim Lane formed Rainbow Consulting LLC in 2007 as the sole proprietor. Since that time, Mr. Lane has provided high quality, integrated subsurface consulting services to companies large and small, in basins throughout the Rocky Mountains, Gulf Coast, Appalachia, and select international areas. 


  Since graduating from the Colorado School of Mines in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Geophysical Engineering and a Geology Minor, Tim has amassed over 36 years of oil and gas industry experience. Including his time working for Western Geophysical, Union Pacific Resource, Resource Solutions, LLC, and Forest Oil Corporation, Tim has had the opportunity to work and explore as lead geoscientist and independent consultant in a wide variety of geologic basins and petroleum systems both on and offshore. Tim also has extensive experience with seismic data processing and onshore drilling operations, as well as experience in seismic data acquisition/permitting, production and development engineering principles, land management and contract negotiations.  

Rocky Mountain and Continental USA

  • Niobrara/Codel play (horizontal & biogenic) of Colorado and Wyoming.
  • Pennsylvanian and Mississippian plays of eastern Colorado and western Kansas
  • Piceance Basin, Colorado
  • Powder River, Wind River, Big Horn, and Green River Basins, Wyoming
  • Williston Basin including Bakken/Three Forks, Mission Canyon, and Red River formations.
  • Marcellus Shale play of southern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia

Onshore Gulf Coast

  •  Entire Tertiary Section of the Upper Texas Gulf Coast region including:
  • Frio, Vicksburg, & Yegua of Upper Texas Coast & Hackberry Embayment areas 
  • Upper Coast Wilcox trends from San Jacinto to Dewitt Counties.
  • Updip Wilcox trend in eastern Texas and western Louisiana.
  • South Texas Wilcox and Vicksburg trends.
  • Upper and Lower Cretaceous carbonate trends in east Texas, south Texas and western Louisiana.
  • Woodbine/Tuscaloosa trend in eastern Texas and western Louisiana.

Offshore Gulf of Mexico

 

  • Texas Transition Zone areas including Matagorda Island, Mustang Island, and North Padre Island.
  • Texas State Waters, High Island area.
  • Offshore Louisiana areas including Vermilion, South Marsh Island (North Addition), Garden Banks, South Timbalier (South Addition), and Mississippi Canyon.
